Here's what I get out of this song. It seems to me that that Billy Joe has somehow had an abrupt discourse in his life (Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go), causing him to have to leave something or someone important in his life. He is basically saying that he hopes this person will always remember him(So take the photographs and still frames in your mind).
